Some random thoughts from Sarasota, FL... I was just sitting by the hotel pool killing some time before our soundcheck & show tonight. It occured to me that many people might say this is paradise. In the middle of February, it's 80 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, sitting by the pool...paradise. I, on the other hand, was trying to figure out exactly why it is that I'm much happier in NYC, even in the winter, even with the cold & everything else that winter brings. Besides the obvious reason of the unlimited energy & choices of activities in any area under the sun, I think it also has to do with the wide variety of people that you encounter every day. A walk to the subway can be an adventure. A ride on the subway can be one as well. You'll see a ton of interesting people on an average subway ride. I love to imagine who each one of them are, what they do & what their lives are like. It's one of my favorite NYC pastimes. You also stand the chance of seeing some amazing street performers....acapella groups, musicians, even dancers. All of this on any average day. There's none of that down here. All of the beautiful weather & mellower vibe is certainly nice for a change but it's more along the lines of "Nice place to visit but wouldn't want to live there" for me. Nothing beats NYC. That will always be home. Really looking forward to getting back. Show tonight & then a drive & show tomorrow before another 2 days off. Show Monday, home Tuesday. Can't wait...
