It's with extreme sadness & disbelief that I report the passing of the great reed player Gerry Niewood who died in the plane crash that occured near Buffalo, NY last night. We were road warriors together on the Liza gig over the past few years. His musicianship & consistency (especially as a jazz soloist) were always amazing. I feel so fortunate to have been able to share some moments with him, both on & off stage. I extend my deepest, most heartfelt condolences to his family.
